1. How can I find and apply for open positions at Urban Systems?

You can find all our open positions here. We also post opportunities on platforms like Indeed, LinkedIn, and our social media channels.

2. Can I apply for multiple positions at the same time, and if so, how?

You’re welcome to apply for multiple roles – we’ll consider your resume for any position you apply to! While we don’t have a bulk apply option, we encourage you to read each job description and consider how each role fits with your experience.

3. How will I know if my application has been received and is being considered?

Upon submitting your application and supporting documents, you will receive a confirmation email from our platform. If you are selected for an interview, you will receive an email to self-select an interview time based off availability.

4. What is the interview process like at Urban Systems?

Our interview process varies depending on the role and team. Generally, after the application deadline, the hiring team selects candidates to move forward within a week. Successful applicants typically participate in a preliminary video interview, followed by an in-person interview and a team meet-and-greet. We then conduct reference checks before extending an offer.

5. Are there any specific preparation tips for interviews with Urban Systems?

We’re looking forward to connecting with you! We value getting to know you as a person and understanding your motivations. Be yourself, come prepared with thoughtful questions, and show genuine interest in Urban Systems. We encourage you to explore our website and recent projects to find areas that inspire and speak to you.

6. After the interview, how soon can I expect to hear back regarding the next steps?

The team you meet with will let you know during the interview what the expected timeline is for follow-up. Our goal is to keep you up to date on any changes to timelines as things progress.

7. If I’m not selected for a position, can I receive feedback on my application or interview?

Absolutely! Our hiring teams are happy to provide helpful feedback regarding your interview or application.

8. How are resumes screened?

Resumes are reviewed by real people on our Recruitment team. We do not use AI software to screen resumes, and therefore, we take proactive steps to reduce biases in our screening process while also intentionally reviewing all resumes.

9. When do student placement opportunities typically open?

Student placement opportunities open the term prior to the employment term. This means that we post open positions in September for Winter opportunities, post in January for Summer opportunities, and post in May for Fall opportunities. Check out our Students Careers page for more information!

10. What will my experience as a student look like?

We frequently hire students from a variety of disciplines across all our branch locations throughout the year, but the majority of student opportunities are posted for summer positions. Our students join us from across Canada, through relationships with faculty as well as from various universities, colleges, technical schools, and professional associations. From the start, you’ll be involved in meaningful work alongside peers and leaders – diving deep into projects and services that directly impact communities. We volunteer our time and financial resources to make a positive difference in people’s lives and our communities, with no expectation of business benefits to Urban Systems. It’s all about showing up for one another by volunteering our time, expertise, creativity, and passion. Today, fourteen branches are actively involved with the Urban Systems Foundation. Last year alone, our volunteers contributed to 53 organizations and 77 initiatives.

1. What kind of health and wellness benefits does Urban Systems offer?

Urban offers extensive benefits for you and your family such as extended health coverage, employee assistance programs, vision care, dental care, and virtual health care. We also offer prescription coverage, parental/maternal leave top-ups, paramedical services, life insurance, travel insurance, and multiple spending accounts for wellness, financial planning, and more! 2. Can you provide more details about the retirement savings plans available to employees?

This optional benefit is available to eligible employees who wish to enhance their individual retirement or long-term savings plans. Urban will match your contribution to a Group RRSP/ TFSA Plan, administered by Canada Life, up to a maximum of 5% of base salary.

3. Does Urban Systems offer parental leave, and if so, what are the details?

Depending on your length of service, Urban offers a top-up to your maternity or parental EI benefits to 100% of your salary for six months. This benefit is available to both biological and adoptive parents.
Employees who choose to forgo the EI top-up can take advantage of our Caregiver Leave, which provides two weeks of fully paid leave to be taken within 52 weeks of the birth or adoption of their child.
